Antoni Dydyński’s record of February 2, 1808 – contributing to the research on the Scholarship Foundation of Antoni Dydyński from Godowa

This article is dedicated to the Antoni Dydyński Foundation from Godowa, one of the oldest and most prosperous scholarship foundations in the XIX and the first half of the XX century. By comparing the original idea of the Founder, contained in the Foundation Act from February 2, 1808, with the actual state that took place after the foundation was put into effect, more than fifty years after its founder’s death, the Foundation’s historical outline is presented. Referring to the available sources, the same attention is focused on scholarships awarded by foundations, whose number reaches from a few to a dozen a year, and which were awarded uninterrupted until 1939. It also worth mentioning about Foundation’s scholars themselves who were educated in various centers from Krakow to Lviv, and many of them grew up to become prominent representatives of culture and science in Poland.
